Volunteer Opportunities

Pats Peak Ski Team (PPST) has a proud tradition of conducting well-run and well-organized races. Our reputation has been built based on service to the racer. We have always made certain that each race is conducted professionally in keeping with the highest standards of amateur ski racing.

Each family member of our racers makes up the PPST Volunteer Team for club-sponsored races. Most races held at Pat's Peak require racers to pay a fee, and, as a result, this produces revenue for the club. Well-run races attract more racers and benefit the club because without these revenue dollars club dues would be higher.

Race Credit Requirements

Each family has a choice at the beginning of the season to either pay higher club dues, or volunteer to earn 4 race credits, per racer, during the season. A maximum of 8 credits are required per family regardless of the number of racers. How to Earn Credits

How to Earn Credits

1. Sign-up: A sign-up table and information about race volunteer opportunities will be available at upcoming PPST meetings and club events.    The mandatory volunteer cut-off date is January 15, 2012. Since the number of volunteers will be limited per race, you should sign up early! After the cut-off date PPST members with an outstanding balance of race volunteer credits will be invoiced $75.00 per race credit owed (based on volunteer commitments as of the cut-off date).
2. You will receive notification of race worker assignments via e-mail prior to each race.
3. You must report for your shift on time and complete the entire shift. Shifts may be shared by members of the same family - please notify the appropriate Area Supervisor (i.e. Head Gatekeeper, Chief of Course, etc.).
4. A Race Area Supervisor will be assigned to each job type. You are required to report to that Race Area Supervisor at the beginning and end of your shift so the appropriate paperwork can be completed.
5. Race workers must sign-in on the Worker Sign-in Sheet and complete a USSA Waiver & Liability Release form for each race. These will be available at the ATC on race day. AO's do not need to sign the USSA Waiver & Liability Release form but everyone should sign the Race Worker Credit sheet. The completed forms will be submitted to NHARA at the completion of each race.

Sign Up Process

Sign-up for volunteer positions at the Equipment Sale Day, Ski or Snowboard Sale, New Member Orientation and the Volunteer Sign-up & Training (tentatively scheduled during Christmas Training Camp) Sessions. Other times please send an e-mail to Kim Kearns and let her know what race and what position you would like to sign up for by January 15, 2012.

Job Description briefs will also be posted with the Sign-up sheets in the ATC. It is important to sign up early to ensure you obtain the necessary race credits. The number of volunteers per race will be limited.

Certain positions require an Alpine Officials (AO) license from USSA. Parents interested in learning more about all aspects of ski racing are strongly encouraged to become Alpine Officials. A copy of the work assignments will be e-mailed to each volunteer one week prior to the scheduled race.

Race credits may be earned by volunteering for one of the race worker positions or by fulfilling one of the non-race roles. The only exceptions for race credits are:

• Ski and Skate Sale: 1 credit per family (families with 2 or more racers can earn up to 2 credits if they have 2 workers at the sale)
