FAQs

Q: When does training at Pat's Peak begin?
A: As soon as Pat's Peak is open for the season, training will be held at Pat's Peak. Contact the mountain directly for opening information.   Early season training sessions will be offered at another area if the Peak does not open early in  December.

Q: Do I have to attend all training session?
A: Individual racers determine their own training commitment. There are no minimum training requirements, yet results are dependent upon the athlete's commitment to improving.

Q: How and when are the training groups determined?

A:
During November and December, including Christmas Vacation week, racers should meet and be ready to ski by 9:00. Groups will be formed based on age, ability and coaching staff. By the end of December contact groups and coaches will be determined.

Q: What is the ATC?
A:
The Alpine Training Center (ATC) is the A-frame building located in front of the Vortex double chair lift. Racers meet outside the ATC at the beginning of each practice and after lunch break. Some racers leave their belongings in the ATC, others in the main lodge.

Q: Where do I find current information about the ski club?

A:
The ATC is the home of the ski club and you should check club emails  on a regular basis for information about upcoming events and races.

Q: How do I know what races to sign up for?

A:
Each age group has a different race schedule. This is distributed in early December and can be found on the team's web-site (www.PatsPeakRacing.org). If you have any questions, check with another parent in the racer's category or the racer's coach. As USSA members, racers are eligible to participate in any open races in their category, however PPST coaches will only be attending races on our calendar.

Q: How do I get the most out of the racing program?
A:
Learning the ropes is difficult at first but there are many people ready and willing to help. Ask questions of the coaches, other parents and Board members.   Consistent attendance at training sessions is the most important key to athlete success.

Q: What are race credits and how do I earn them?

A:
Race credits are earned by working the races that the PPST host at Pat's Peak which generates revenue for the club. Every family can opt at the beginning of the race season to work four races per child (max of 8 races per family) or pay full membership.

Q: How do I learn how to work a race?

A:
There are a variety of jobs available during a race. The club will host a clinic that reviews the different types of jobs. Check in at the ATC and the web site for clinic times and places.

Q: Will there be a new parent orientation?
A:
The club will host a new parent orientation where basic information will be reviewed and questions answered. Also do not hesitate to ask another parent or any board member.

Q: What is USSA and NHARA?
A:
In order for a racer to be able to compete, they must have secured a USSA and NHARA membership. If you have not done this yet, you should apply for these immediately.
